The magicJack placed third in the year following Rapinoe's goals. At the end of 2011, the magicJack went under and in the early part of 2012, so did WPS. Rapinoe was part of Sydney Football Club FC in the Australian W-League for a couple games before she returned to the United States. In the following year, she was a player for Seattle Washington Sounders Women - currently Sound FC. She was playing in France during this season. Following the WPS broke up and she joined Seattle Reign FC (now OL Reign) of the National Women's Soccer League NWSL. Rapinoe was eventually promoted to the role of captain and became one of the club's top scorers. The team was awarded cocaptain status in the year 2018. Rapinoe's two goals were the result of a 4-3 United States victory against Australia in the Olympics in 2020 Tokyo.
